SACRED TOWER

Kaira Looro International Architecture Competition

The place of the project a tiny void left in the centre of the village of Tanaf in Senegal which is surrounded by short fences and little huts made of adobe bricks, mostly covered with wood structures and iron sheets.

The tension of the surrounding elements gives the idea of a place of “density” which has not already taken physical form; we interpreted the suggestion from the place, with the idea of a Tower, an element that can easily represent the human pursuit of the divine and work as a recognizable landmark in the landscape, proposing a hand made building that could easily express the values of hospitality, sobriety, and spirituality.
