PRISON MUSEUM & HOTEL

The project has been presented to an international architecture competition which main objective was to find new ideas to re-purpose an ancient st. Caterina's Fortress in Favignana.

The proposal started with a selection of the relevant existing local architecture, and how to react to them.

The existing stone path is introduced into the proposal informing the orientation to building, generating the access to the roof level.

The small building at the eastern part of the site has been read as a potential lightwell and access for the hotel, the physicality of this proposal is to be read as an ambition to add a new historical layer to the building offering a new terrace area and spaces obtained by subtraction from the new stone mass.
